The Indian car market is quickly moving toward electric vehicles, and Kia has taken a big step by making its popular Carens model electric. The Kia Carens Clavis EV, which came out on July 15, 2025, is a roomy, family-friendly electric MPV with a lot of features. It is based on the new Carens Clavis with an internal combustion engine (ICE), but there are a few important differences that make it an EV.
Outside and design
The Carens Clavis EV has the same basic shape as its ICE counterpart, but the design changes are small but effective. The front end has a blanked-off grille and a full-width LED light bar that connects the sleek LED daytime running lights, which are a signature feature of Kia’s electric cars. The charging port is built in nicely at the front. The car also gets new alloy wheels that are better for aerodynamics and a new rear bumper.
Inside and Out
The inside of the Carens Clavis EV is made to be comfortable and useful. It keeps the roomy 7-seat layout, which is a big draw for families. The dashboard is the same as the ICE version. It has two screens: a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display.
Some of the most important features are:
- A dual-pane panoramic sunroof is a feature that makes the cabin feel more luxurious and spacious.
- Ventilated front seats are a great comfort feature for the weather in India.
- 8-speaker Bose sound system: For a high-quality sound experience.
Automatic climate control for two zones
Level 2 ADAS: The advanced driver assistance system has features like adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and forward collision avoidance assist that make driving safer.
V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) functionality lets the car power other electronic devices, which makes it even more useful and convenient.
Frunk (Front trunk): The Carens Clavis EV has a 25-liter storage space under the hood, which is useful because it doesn’t have a regular engine.
Battery, Performance, and Distance
Customers can choose between two battery pack options for the Kia Carens Clavis EV, depending on their needs and budget:
Standard Range: This version has a 42 kWh battery pack and is said to have an ARAI-certified range of 404 km. The electric motor makes 133 bhp and 255 Nm of torque.
Extended Range: This model has a bigger 51.4 kWh battery pack, which gives it a claimed ARAI-certified range of 490 km. This version’s motor has 169 bhp and 255 Nm of torque, which is the same as the other version.
In the real world, the Extended Range version has been said to have a range of about 320 to 350 km.
Charging
The Carens Clavis EV can be charged quickly with both AC and DC power.
Charging with AC: The 42 kWh version can be charged from 10% to 100% in 4 hours with an 11 kW AC charger. The 51.4 kWh version takes 4 hours and 45 minutes.
DC Fast Charging: A 100 kW DC fast charger can charge both models from 10% to 80% in just 39 minutes.
Prices and Options
The Kia Carens Clavis EV comes in different trims, with prices (ex-showroom) from ₹17.99 lakh to ₹24.49 lakh.
- HTK Plus (Standard Range): ₹17.99 lakh
- HTX (Standard Range): ₹20.49 lakh
- ₹22.49 lakh for HTX ER (Extended Range)
- HTX Plus ER (Extended Range): ₹24.49 lakh
The Carens Clavis EV is up against some tough competition, like the BYD eMax 7 and the soon-to-be-released Hyundai Creta Electric. The Kia Carens Clavis EV is a strong contender that is likely to change the electric vehicle market in India. It has a lot of features, a low price, and a strong focus on family practicality.
